Composition

Ketamine                                                               100 mg

(as ketamine hydrochloride                                 115.4 mg)

Indication

Short-term anaesthesia in dogs, cats, horses and donkeys for diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.

Target animals

Dogs, cats, horses and donkeys.

Dosage and application

Method of administration: intramuscular or intravenous. Intravenous administration is recommended in large animals.

Dosage should be tailored to individual patients.

Horse, donkey

A general dose is ketamine 2 mg/kg bw (i.e. 2 ml of product/100 kg bw) by rapid IV injection.

The product is suitable to lay the animal, for a short anaesthesia, or at the beginning of inhalation anaesthesia in horses. The horse lies down spontaneously. Another same dose can be applied to extend or deepen anaesthesia.

Sedative premedication is necessary to ensure the safe effect of ketamine: e.g. acepromazine 0.1 mg/kg bw, then guaifenesin 90-120 mg/kg bw or xylazine 0.4-0.6 mg/kg bw IV.

Dog

Monoanaesthesia with ketamine10-20 mg/kg bw (i.e. 0.1-0.2 ml of product/kg bw) IM.

Combination options: atropine 0.05 mg/kg bw IV, IM, SC with acepromazine at a dose of 0.1 mg/kg bw, after getting their effect ketamine 2 mg/kg bw (i.e. 0.2 ml of product/10 kg bw) IV.

Another option: atropine 0.05 mg/kg bw with xylazine at a dose of 2 mg/kg bw IM, after getting their effect ketamine 5-10 mg/kg bw (i.e. 0.05-0.1 ml of product/kg bw) IM.

Cat

Monoanaesthesia with ketamine 20-40 mg/kg bw (i.e. 0.2-0.4 ml of product/kg bw) IM.

Combined anaesthesia: ketamine 10-20 mg/kg bw (i.e. 0.1-0.2 ml of product/kg bw) IM.

Combination options: to reduce salivation atropine at a dose of 0.05 mg/kg bw with acepromazine 0.1-0.15 mg/kg bw. After getting their effect ketamine 20 mg/kg bw (i.e. 0.2 ml of product/kg bw) IM or atropine together with xylazine at a dose of 2 mg/kg bw IM, SC and after getting their effect ketamine 10 mg/kg bw (i.e. 0.1 ml of product/kg bw) IM.

The stopper can be punctured up to 50 times.

Storage

Keep the injection vial in the carton in order to protect from light.

Protect from frost.

Withdrawal period

Not intended for food-producing animals.

Do not use in horses and donkeys whose meat and milk are intended for human consumption.

Shelf life

Shelf life of the veterinary medicinal product as packaged for sale: 2 years.
Shelf life after first opening the immediate packaging: 28 days.
