Composition
PRRS virus, live attenuated, strain BIO 60 - EU, min. 103,4 TCID50 - max. 106,8 TCID50 *
* TCID50 – 50% infectious dose for tissue cultures
Indication
For active immunization of clinically healthy pigs from 2 weeks of age in the environment contaminated with the European type of PRRS virus.
Onset of immunity up to the protective level - within 4 weeks after vaccination.
Duration of immunity:
Fattening pigs - duration of immunity for 6 months.
Vaccination of two-week-old piglets has been shown to significantly reduce occurrence of lung lesions after the challenge test performed 180 days after vaccination.
Breeding sows - duration of immunity for 16 weeks.
Vaccination of seronegative clinically healthy sows 4 weeks before insemination has been shown to reduce viremia and transplacental infection by PRRS virus during the critical period (approximately from day 85 of gestation) and minimize the negative impact on reproductive performance, including the number of stillborn piglets, frequency of viremia in piglets, reduced weight gain, viral load and occurrence of lung lesions in piglets.
Dosage, application and vaccination scheme
Vaccination dose - 2 ml intramuscularly.
A single dose is given to pigs from 2 weeks of age.
Pigs for fattening: one vaccine dose is sufficient to protect them until slaughter.
Breeding pigs: (re)vaccination is recommended in gilts and sows 4 weeks before mating. To achieve a uniform level of protection, revaccination at regular intervals is recommended, either before each subsequent pregnancy or for the whole period of keeping every 16 weeks.
New, PRRS virus-free animals brought to the farm (e.g. gilts from PRRS-negative farms) should be vaccinated before mating or insemination.
It is recommended to vaccinate all pigs from the earliest recommended age.
Maternal antibodies have not been shown to affect response to vaccination.
The vaccine can be used during lactation.
Use of the vaccine during pregnancy has be considered responsibly in the context of the current situation of PRRS virus spreading in a particular herd, and manifestations of an ongoing infection. The PRRS virus naive sows and gilts that have not encountered the infection yet, should not be vaccinated during pregnancy to prevent possible adverse effects on the foetus.
